Adventures of an Anglo –Greek Marriage

Alexandra, a product of Greek Fire. Born into the cradle of civilization. Weaned on the teachings of ancient Greek philosophers, thrilled by the bravery of Spartans and thousands of years of cultural heritage.

Peter, her future husband, a tea drinking, digestive-dunking product of British society. Working to make a living, no real ambitions or dreams. But then, he fell in love and everything changed.

At times hilarious, always embarrassing, Peter’s story of how he became Greek enough to live with a Greek family includes a near-death experience on a mountain road, eccentric aunts, Greek bureaucracy, melting flip-flops, and the decision to demolish the much-loved family home, replacing it with a five-storey apartment block, complete with a Parthenon on the roof terrace.

What could possibly go wrong?

The first in the Parthenon series, the book takes us into the heart of Englishman Peter Barber’s adopted Greek family.

Humour, love, beauty, a fiery wife and Greek culture are presented in a hilarious package, the perfect escapist read.

‘Reminds me of The Durrell’s’
‘Peter has written a lovely account of his life in Greece in this easy reading book. It’s full of hilarious tales and I really didn’t want it to finish. If he could write sequels, and perhaps prequels, I think they would make a wonderful television series, especially for those of us who are missing The Durrell’s’.

‘I was in a beautiful country with a wonderful person bedside me’ – a Greek initiation!
“British born author Peter Barber presents a thoroughly entertaining memoir of his life as an Anglo man married to a Greek woman – a story that outdistances the ongoing cinematic exploration of “My Big Fat Greek Wedding’ because of the excellent combination of fact with humor”.
